Ambon, November 25, 2024 – Senior Statistician of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Maluku Province, Pauline Gaspersz, was one of the speakers at the Coordination Meeting (Rakor) for Inflation Control Ahead of National Religious Holidays (HBKN) in 2024. The activity held by the Maluku Province Food Security Service aims to formulate a joint strategy in maintaining the stability of basic necessities prices in the face of spikes in demand ahead of Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025. In her material, Pauline presented the development of the CPI in 3 (three) Inflation Regencies/Cities in Maluku until October 2024, including trend analysis, commodities that affect inflation. Pauline highlighted several food commodities that experienced price volatility such as rice and fish. "In October 2024, inflation in Maluku was 0.65% driven by fluctuations in food prices, especially for local commodities that are actually produced in Maluku, such as fish. Therefore, strict supervision of supply and prices in the market is needed," he explained. He also emphasized the need for cross-sector synergy in managing the commodity supply chain to remain stable.
This coordination meeting was attended by the Heads of related agencies/institutions and institutions in Maluku Province, including representatives from Bank Indonesia (BI), Bulog, and academics from Pattimura University (UNPATTI) who were also speakers. Several concrete steps that will be taken by the Maluku Provincial Food Security Service to control inflation during the run-up to Christmas and New Year (Nataru) are to hold 28 cheap markets spread across 3 districts/cities of Inflation, namely Ambon City, Central Maluku Regency and Tual City.
The Head of the Maluku Provincial Food Security Service expressed his appreciation to all speakers for their contributions in providing sharp data and analysis.
